Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I may re-open a restricted timetable on Monday 15th June, depending on my health. Because I have a backlog of people who want to see me it is unlikely I will be able to get you in straight away.

RE-OPENING

BOOKING IN

I am pre-screening patients before booking you in. This is to check that you are aware of the necessary changes and to reassure you of the measures I’m taking to minimise the risk of viral transmission.

I will be seeing patients for a maximum of 30 minutes with at least 15 minutes gap. This will allow me to clean and ventilate the room to make ready for the next patient.

PATIENTS IN HIGHER RISK CATEGORIES

For example, the over 70 or with other health conditions that need to visit will be seen at the beginning of the day to further minimise risks to them. Info on these categories can be found by following the links in each category below:

  • Clinically Vulnerable People - are advised to exercise caution and consider the necessity of visiting. Patients in this category will be seen at the beginning of the day. For more information see here.
  • Clinically Extremely Vulnerable People - are advised to remain at home and shield. More information here see here.

BOOKING YOUR VISIT

If you have any of the following symptoms or signs or have been in contact with anyone who shows these symptoms in the last 4 days you will not be able to attend but should self-isolate and follow the advice already set out in NHS and Government recommendations.

  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of taste or smell

Some of the case history may be taken at this stage so be prepared and have information to hand. e.g. a list of current medications.

Please remain aware of your symptom status right up to the time of your appointment. You are welcome to call if you need further advice.

INFECTION CONTROL

In order to reduce the possibility of contact with other patients please be on time but not overly early for your appointment.

If coming by car please wait in your car to be invited in. I will be expecting you and looking out for you.

ENTERING THE PREMISES

Please use the provided hand gel on entry. I will provide you with a mask to wear.

PPE - WHAT I WILL BE WEARING

Expect to see me in mask, apron, eye protection and gloves over my usual attire.

There will be no couch coverings and the pillow will be covered in hospital grade protection.

PLEASE ONLY WEAR PPE I PROVIDE

Any PPE worn when you arrive will need to be disposed of before the appointment.

CHAPERONE

All patients under 18 years of age will need to be chaperoned for treatment. Anyone wishing a chaperone to be present is requested to either bring someone with them from their own household.

I am unable to arrange chaperoning and if this request is made then the appointment will need to be rebooked at a time suitable to all parties.

TOILET FACILITIES

The toilet will be available, please follow the now familiar handwashing advice.

TREATMENT ROOM

All contact surfaces will have been wiped with either min 70% Alcohol / min 1000ppm chlorine bleach / soap and water solution.

PPE DISPOSAL

Items to be disposed of will be processed in accordance with the guidance in force at the time of the visit. If you receive a mask and take it with you please dispose of it responsibly. (PPE should be double bagged and left for 72 hours before normal domestic disposal)

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SUBSEQUENTLY DEVELOP SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19

If you develop symptoms within 4 days of attending please inform me. You should then isolate in accordance with Government and NHS guidance.

If I receive a report of someone developing symptoms following their visit, I will inform all patients seen after them and close the practice, the practice will remain closed no less than 7 days but could be as long as 21 days.

If I show any symptoms I will inform everyone I have seen in the last 4 days and advise them to isolate and follow the current Government and NHS guidance. The practice will close for 14 days (to ensure all in the house are clear before reopening).
